Hello and welcome

The Wildflower Cafe is an independent cafe nestled in the old cattle yard at Saddlescombe Farm, which is a National Trust site on the South Downs Way, with great circular walks from the cafe offering stunning views in every direction. We serve a range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes prepared daily in our kitchen using fresh, seasonal, and when possible, local ingredients. Our food is best described as food for the soul. Come and enjoy this unique and historical setting, and treat yourself to our savoury dishes, homemade cakes and choice of hot and cold drinks. Well behaved dogs are of course very welcome.

Please note that whilst we do not have any customer parking at the cafe, there is a free car park across the road from the farm entrance. Alternatively there is pay and display parking at Devil’s Dyke, which is only a 10 minute walk away, and free to National Trust members.

Our Menus

HOT & COLD DRINKS – Served 9:30am to 4:00pm:

We serve barista made coffees, hot chocolate, chai and turmeric lattes, mocha, juice cartons, still and sparkling water, cold cans, and a wide selection of teas and infusions.
Our hot drinks are served in compostable cups made from plants, collected for composting every week.

BREAKFASTS – Served 9:30am to 11:45am:

Smashed avocado served with roasted tomatoes, toasted seeds and a herby drizzle on spinach toast (VG/GF) – £8.50
Turkish eggs – this is poached eggs topped with greek yogurt, smoked sundried tomato drizzle on spinach toast (GF) – £9.00
Poached eggs on hummus, topped with sweet chili sauce on spinach toast (GF) – £8.50
Poached eggs served with roasted tomatoes, toasted seeds and a herby drizzle on spinach toast (GF) – £8.50
Peanut butter with sliced banana, toasted seeds and maple syrup on sourdough toast (VG/GF) – £5.50
Homemade granola, fruit and coconut yogurt (VG/GF) – £7.50

Our vegan, gluten-free spinach bread is the creation of our owner and chef Rachael, and is usually available to buy by the loaf.

LUNCHES – Served 12:00pm to 3:00pm:

Our heart warming soups are homemade from fresh ingredients, and served with spinach toast. We have a soup on our menu every day, and here are a few of our favourites:

Beetroot and ginger (VG/GF) – £8.00
Cannellini bean, spinach, herb and lemon (VG/GF) – £8.00
Cream of cashew and tomato (VG/GF) – £8.00

Our soul soothing stews are homemade from fresh ingredients, and served with brown rice. We have a stew on our menu every day, and here are a few of our favorites:

African spiced sweet potato, chickpea, peanut and smoked paprika (VG/GF) – £12.00
Indian spiced cauliflower, butternut squash, fresh ginger, coriander and red lentils (VG/GF) – £12.00
Tarka Dhal served with rice and poppadoms or chapati (VG/GF) – £12.00

Welsh rarebit on soughdough toast, coleslaw and side salad – served daily (GF option) – £12.00

The following dishes are usually available throughout the spring and summer months:

Homemade cumin wraps, made from chickpea flour, herbs and spices, served with a choice of fillings (falafel, halloumi or hummus), and roasted vegetables and a side salad (VG options/GF) – £11.75
Salad bowls served with a choice of fillings (falafel, halloumi or hummus), and roasted vegetables and tabule (VG options/GF) – £13.00
Cannellini bean mash on spinach toast, served with roasted tomatoes, herby green drizzle and side salad (VG/GF) – £11.00

Gorgeous little cafe tucked in the valley. Incredible food, great coffee and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for a mid walk stop!

The Wildflower Café is an absolute gem tucked away at Saddlescombe Farm. The food is brilliant — the Welsh rarebit is honestly one of the best I’ve ever had: rich, perfectly toasted, and full of flavour.

They’ve also got a great selection of cakes, all homemade and properly delicious, plus plenty of drinks. The setting is lovely too, peaceful and surrounded by countryside, with plenty of outdoor seating.

A perfect stop after a walk on the Downs. Great food, friendly people, and a cosy atmosphere — highly recommend.

Have enjoyed going to this outdoor cafe for some years & I love both the peaceful courtyard location & the good food. Their spinach bread is particularly lovely & you can buy a loaf to take away if available.

So much more than a cafe; the food is delicious, thoughtful and energising. Saddlescombe is surrounded by the best walks on the Downs, and there's a free car park a few minutes walk away on the road to the top of the Dyke. Can't see anything to impove.
